Simple 12 Volt to 9 Volt DC-DC Converter

12 V to 9 V DC-DC Converter

This DC-DC Converter schematic diagram is very simple with few components, making it easy to build. It can convert 9 volt DC voltage from 12 VDC source.

To obtain a much more accurate output voltage, change zener Z1 using 10V and resistor R1 with a 1 Kohm Variable resistor. A heatsink for Q1 is recommended. Very simple circuit to be able to power your 9 volt electronic equipment and some other stuff.

Parts List :
R1 = 560 ohm
C1 = 1000µF/16V ( Electrolytic Capacitor )
C2 = 100µF/16 ( Electrolytic Capacitor )
C3 = 330nF ( Ceramic Capacitor )
Z1 = 9.1V, 0.4 watt ( zener diode )
Q1 = ECG184, NTE184

  1. is that 12vdc-to 9vdc usefull for 10A power supply ?? i have 12vdc 10A power supply, and i want to change to 9vdc 10A

  2. Darianto,
    The schematic is actually showing a very cheap Linear Voltage Regulator.
    Instead of “converting” it’s actually decreases the Voltage by dissipating the overhead (3V in our case)
    Smart, efficient converters are use some kind of higher frequency switching technique decreasing (or even increasing if needed) the output Voltage level.
    Boost Conversion for increasing, Buck conversion for decreasing.
    Answering your question, in theory it’s possible but not really recommended for such high power, since you’re going to dissipate( wasting, and need large heatsink ) about 30W at 10 Amps.
    I’m going to help you to work on some switching high efficient DC/DC converter just shot me an Email at laszloee@gmail.com.

    Best.
